Explore the National Geographic Virtual Library with GoWYLD
Within the National Geographic Virtual Library (NGVL), that contains every page of every issue 1888-present, you also have access to National Geographic History from January 2019 to present.
In NGVL you can use the search box to locate topics in both National Geographic Magazine and National Geographic History. For example, a search for Magellan results in items from the 1897 and 1960 National Geographic Magazine and a 2021 issue of History. Plus, there’s an advertisement from 1911 for a winter cruise to South America through the Straits of Magellan for $350.
This cross searching capability will also bring back books, maps, images, and videos. As with all Gale databases, the results page shows three items under each item type. Click on the header and number (ex: Featured Articles 26) to see all.
In addition to the search box, you can click on National Geographic History to browse issues. Select an issue and then arrow through the issue or use the search within document for a specific subject.
There’s a basic NGVL tutorial in Niche Academy. Find this on the GoWYLD.net page using the pop-out Tutorials tab on the far right.
